After taking up the Slayers oath, Balrik Redaxe has been traveling these war torn lands in search of his mighty doom, so that the shame brought to him and his kin may be redeemed and grungi may open it’s doors to him once again.  This day we find Balrik traveling through the mountain high snow covered peaks of Ekrund.   A soft breeze blows through the Redhammer pub as Balrik opens the door and walks in.  Its patrons are the typical hard working dwarfs eating their mid day meals, washing it down with tall mugs of ale.  They pay no attention to Balrik as he enters and walks to the bar raising a hand to the barkeep “Oi lad give me a pint ol’ yer finest.” With a nod the barkeep reaches down and pulls out an empty mug and begins filling it, once full he passes the frothy mug to Balrik  “Er ya be Slayer.  Tis the best we be havin’ at te moment.  Dem Bull’edd greenskins drunk te last batch ferm te train wreck.” The barkeep let’s out “grunt” at that, and walks away leaving Balrik to his thoughts as he drinks.

At the other end of the bar two dwarf Ironbreakers can be heard in deep discussion over a troll, warped from the taint of chaos and stands tall as the tunnels entrance.  It lumbers around the entrance to Norri’s Tunnel where a stash of Bugmans best XXXX is being stored.  “Oi! Wat this you be saying about a Chaos tainted troll blockin a tunnel entrance.” The ironbreakers startled by the sudden interruption looked at Balrik with wide eyes.  As it was Balrik Redaxe was a sight in itself to be seen.  His shaved head except for a tall brightly colored Mohawk held with three golden pins, His beard the same color, long and held together with golden clamps.  Intricate tattoos covering his massive frame as he sat crouched over the bar.  The right side of his face a mangled mess of skin where sat an unmoving white eye.  His one good eye looking upon the ironbreakers with great interest after hearing of this Chaos troll.  The ironbreakers ecovering from their initial shock both answered back in unison “It be tru Slayer, There be a troll named Clawgut big as te tunnel entrance.” “I ‘erd It’s limbs be the size of trees”  “nobody der be goin’ near te thing less they be wanting there head caved in.” At that Balrik let out a might roar of laughter.  “Muuaahhaaa”  “Tis be sounding like a mighty doom I be seeking.” Balrik finished his pint in one long draw slamming it down on the bar, and rose from his stool.  “If I don’t be returning by tomorrow then, I may have found my mighty doom.” With that he left Redhammers pub.

Norri’s tunnel was a short hike to the east of Redhammer pub the way being mostly covered in snow, but not slowing Balrik down the least.  Once reaching the base of the cliff leading up to Norris tunnel the presence of chaos could be felt, and a smell of a hundred rotting corpse left out in the boiling sun wafted down the slope. Balrik ready his axes in preparation for battle as he began to climb the slope.  Half way up the slope and massive head could be seen deformed from the taint of chaos huge horns jutting out from its face eyes like black opals glissing under fire light.  The smell was awful any normal person would have fainted long ago.  Balrik of course had a great doom to seek and was unaffected by the trolls smell or presence.  With a mighty “roar” Balrik charged at the Clawgut.  Clawgut noticing fresh prey bellowed back with a fierce “roar” as he began to charge, its towering frame looming over Balrik.  They met in the center of the snowy hill outside the tunnel entrance Balrik slashing violently while dodging its massive clawed hands.

The fight continued furiously Balrik bleeding from a blow to the head Clawgut had landed with a huge clawed hand.  Clawgut was riddled with deep gashes in its abdomen, all which were seeping a foul greenish yellow liquid.  Furious with rage Balrik charged Clawgut swing wildly at his legs releasing all his rage and shearing off the trolls’ leg as greenish yellow gore sprayed everywhere.  With a bellow of rage the Clawgut fell to the ground, and before recovering from the crippling blow Balrik brought both his axes down over Clawguts head removing it clean from its body. The fight was over and Balrik still stood.  With a gruff “grunt” he spat on the tainted trolls body saying a Dwarfish curse. “bloody trolls neve put up a good enough fight.” With the rage of the battle over Balrik sheathed his axes on his hips and started his walk back to Redhammers pub, to inform the ironbreakers the tunnel was clear of the chaos troll.

A new category!!  Something I have been meaning to get up since I first started this blog a month ago.  I proudly introduce, the first of many installments I have planned for my mighty Slayer.  Chronicles of Balrik Redaxe As I mentioned before writing has never been on of my strong points, but is something I would like to further pursue.  Comments are always welcome be they are good, bad or indifferent.

Questing fun…

Going through the goggle reader today. I noticed a few posts that caught my eye about questing in WAR and how it can possibly be improved. Syp started it off with Making up The lore While Dont and Regis added their thoughts in 3 Ideas For Improving Quests and Creating Epic Quests Being a big quest-er in WAR due to my play time (off peak hours = deserted RvR lakes) I find myself in front of a lot of quest text.   As we all know questing is pretty straight forward in WAR, pick up a quest check your map for the red blob run down kill 5 bats pick up 3 stones or rummage though a mangled corpse.  Reading the lore in the text brings more meaning to what you are doing, but honestly how many people have the time to read all that!?

Something I had always wished MMO’s had was a log of all the completed quests.  Seeing as we have the mighty ToK  that records everything we do why not add a tab for completed quests?  Or they can be added to the war story under each tier linking all completed quests to that given tier.  That way when people who don’t have time to read everything besides the description have a chance to read the lore at a later point, be it waiting on a BO timer to click over, when crafting or just want something to read.  Least then all the hard work the writers have put in isn’t going to waste.

Something else I have been thinking about to bring more oRvR to WAR is more PvE style quests in the rvr lakes.  These quest could be easy as rescuing fallen npcs, stopping an invasion on the warcamp (using the cannons already setup) or simpling kill 10 trolls or what ever npc is in that zone. They can be set as repeatable quest once a day like the BO’s and kill quests that are already available.  These quests could also give besides the obvious XP, a little Renown and Influence.  Hopefully this would bring a little more orvr during offpeak hours as well.

1.2 and the Flu

flu3

Well,  the Bitter Rivals event is finished and 1.2 is now one week old.  Unfortunately I was down and out with the flu all week.  (Better known as Influenza type B here in Japan.)  Luckily the day before the event wrapped up I was feeling well enough to get in an hours worth of play time.   Allowing me to complete the Bitter Rivals event and unlock the two careers a week early.   I must say that this event has been one of the easiest events Mythic has released thus far.  Although a little bland, and a scenario that was lag infested and crash ridden the over list of things to do was pretty simplistic.

Not having see much of 1.2 besides the Bitter Rivals event and my brief time spent on the PTS.  I think Pancakez over at breakfast at war may have had some very valid points in his post seriosuly bitter…. rivals? about the over all feel 1.2 had.  I do love some of the new features, but also think that those features should have already been in the game at release. One might go as far as to question Mythic’s approach to testing.  I for one know,  when I was on the PTS  I focused mostly on the Choppa and Slayer’s .  Of course I reported bugs and frame glitches as they came up, but never really went out of my way to find any bugs none related to either of those two careers. As he stated, one week to test 50 pages of re-balancing and bug fixes plus 2 new careers is hardly enough time to get any proper testing done in my opinion.   Now if it was a month of testing with the last week open to everyone that might be a little different.  At least than some solid testing would have gotten in before the flood gates were opened.

Bitter Time Zones

So 1.2 is here with loads of new features, a lot of which are nice and well over due.  Along with 1.2 massive list of bugs and career updates came the much anticipated Bitter Rivals event.  I for one have been waiting for this event seeing as it means the slayer is just around the corner.  As some might have read I live in Japan at the moment meaning I’m on GMT+9.  Normally I don’t mind the time difference.  It only becomes a problem when special events kick off, such as this one.

While at work today I was taunted and toyed with by posts like Down and dirty with Bitter Rivals, Bitter Rivals Day One – PvMe , it was enough to make my head explode.  But none the less the day eventually ended, although I think it may have been the longest day I’ve worked this year so far.  After a  relaxing dinner, a chat with the Mrs. about her day, and a quick shower.  It was finally time to settle down in front of the computer, for some good quality Bitter Rivalry action (better known as The Twisting Tower).   I was hoping due to the event people might be on a little earlier than normal.  5am isn’t asking to much.  Is it? Apparently it was, because the only real action I got all night was chasing a few Orcs around the RvR lakes for the event pq.  I very uneventful night I must say.

On the plus side my Slayer was accepted into Cult Of Garaz Dum earlier today.  Being a Slayer only guild that has a strong influence on Role-playing I was quite excited.  If you are a Slayer playing on the Phoenix Throne (US) server and are interested in a guild like this I suggest checking us out.

Bring me DEATH!!

battleroyale_poster_jp

That pretty much sums up my weekend of pts testing, and the Battle Royale that occurred on Sunday.  I found myself taking a dirt nap, and watching the spinning screen of death  most of the time. (Why hasn’t that been fixed yet!?)  For some reason, I couldn’t keep myself  alive even when out of the mob of choppa’s spamming Get to da Choppa and Can’t stop da Choppa .  I still found myself getting picked off by sorceress or squid herders.  I think Mythic left the marked for death icon over my slayers head during the Battle Royale.  Not to say it wasn’t fun. I was having a great time playing and testing all the new features in 1.2.   It was nice  seeing people actually defending BO’s and keeps while trying to reach full zone domination.  I didn’t get much time to try out all the new crafting updates but, Thulf over at Stunty Stomper has dug up some nice info on the changes.  If you haven’t seen his posts on them, I suggest checking them out.

I was able to get back on the pts early this morning one last time before it went down for maintenance.   I saw in /region Chaos Wastes was hosting some 1v1 action for anyone wanting to test out different specs and abilities.  So I hopped on my nifty Blue Gromril Contraption (which looks the same as the rest) and headed over to the dueling spot.  Finding a partner was easy as /beckon, /point, or taunt,  long as they gestured back it was on till death.  Funny enough I found myself taking dirt naps again, but I’m blaming spec on those deaths.  I must say, I have never been a big fan of dueling and understand that WAR is not built for 1v1 combat,  but those couple hours of testing were probably my best experience during the whole testing process, PVE aside.  I actually had a chance to test out the slayer tactics in various combination’s, abilities, and rotations.  Of course it was skewed a bit being 1v1.  (I’ll save that info for a later post I’m working on.)

All in all was great to be back on the pts again, testing out the new careers and features.  I look forward to the Bitter Rivals event and finally having a slayer I can call my own.  BRING ME GLORY!!

Playing Favorites

Tonight’s post I’ll be looking at my own Seven favorites list. Which was  originally posted by Syp over at WAAAGH!

* Favorite Zone – Inevitable city.   Hands down one of the eeriest moments in WAR, was traveling through the city for the first time in beta. The dark colors and feel of death all around really draw you into over all evil chaos and the ruinous power bring.

* Favorite Race – Dwarf’s followed by greenskins.  Ever since my table top days I have always been a big fan of both these races.  Seeing them in action and, how mythic has handled the over all design furthers my love of these races.

* Favorite Career – Slayer. The class I have most wanted in WAR since early beta.  The career looks great and has a fun unique play-style with three distinct mastery trees to choose from.

* Favorite WAR Feature – The Tome of Knowledge.  My recorded history, just a click away.

* Favorite Skill – Inevitable Doom:   You deal 112 damage to your target and force them to share your doomed fate, inflicting a dark rune on them. Anywhere  from 3 to 9 seconds later, the rune will explode, dealing 187 damage to all enemies with in 30 ft.  Great for people low on health that run back to the healers.

* Favorite Scenario – Khaine’s Embrace, one of the most original scenario I have seen.  Who doesn’t like things that go BOOM!

* Favorite Live Event – Hard to say on this one I missed out on all the event’s, except for Night of Murder.  (Moving house ftl.)

Taking the plunge!

Greetings and Welcome to A Doomseekers Journey.   It’s on this day I’m proud to join the Warhammer blogging community, that I have so long followed.  I’ve been a long time reader of many great Warhammer blogs (WAAAGH!, Wizards & Wenches, Tomb of knowledge, Bugmans Best to name a few.), but never much of a poster.  (Working on changing that!) To this, I’m taking the plunge into the blogging world.  I guess the best place to start would be a brief introduction on who I am, and what I have planned for this blog.  My name is James (aka Willi).  I’m married and currently living in Japan.  I have been an avid gamer for as long as I can remember.   Starting back in the days of NES and its cumbersome Gyro- robot (R.O.B), and eventually moving up to PC gaming, and later on to mmo gaming.  My mmo career dates back to a brief stint in Ultima online followed up a few years later by, FFX online then,  DAOC and of course the game we have all come to play at some time during our mmo career WOW, and now WAR.  Which leads to this blog being born.  A Doomseekers Journey will be largely based around my soon to be named Slayer on Phoenix Throne (US) server.  Only time will tell if he ever finds a worthy opponent that can fulfill the doom he seeks.  In addition to doomseeking.  I plan on sharing my views, and opinions on various WAR related topics.  Lastly I’m not the most proficient writer out there although, it is something I plan on working on through this blog.
